Villa Mellicata
Villa Mellicata, immersed in the greenery of walnut trees, can hardly be seen from “Il Nastro Verde” the road leading from Sorrento to S. Agata sui Due Golfi, a small village set on the summit of one of the Lactarian Hills looking down on Sorrento and on the “Two Gulfs”, the bays of Naples and Salerno.
The property, an ancient farmstead made of local tuff rock, situated 400 meters above sea level, has been slowly reshaped by the owners’ passion, becoming a tasteful contryside villa, a place inspiring rest and quiet. A special atmosphere created by the the villa’s architecture, the timber ceilings and staircases, the well maintained outdoor areas resembling an enchanted garden. The friendly service, the genuine food, the farmer, all contributes to an environment evocative of times gone by.
Mrs Rosa, the owner, is an expert of pleasure gardens, and she has carefully selected, in the years, ornamental plants and flowers for the villa’s garden, while maintaining the farming and agricultural vocation of these lands. Nowadays the farm produces organic fruits, vegetables, extra vergine olive oil, walnuts, hazelnuts, a great wine and much more.
Over the years, the villa, mostly used as the owners’ summer residence, has hosted illustrious names from politics, arts, and entertainment including Carla Fracci, the queen of Italian and international ballet, together with Carlo Menegatti; Alan Ford, former U.S.A president together with Peter Secchia, American ambassador in Italy; and Claudia Cardinale, the Italian actress together with movie director Pasquale Squitieri.
